Banu Demirbaş is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey. Between 01.09.2024-31.08.2025, she will be at the Hamburg University to carry out her doctoral thesis. She completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Sociology at Hacettepe University in 2017 and her master's degree in the Department of Sociology at Yıldız Technical University in 2021. Her master's thesis aimed to describe, understand, and interpret the stigmatizing and othering tweets shared by young people on Twitter regarding individuals aged 65 and older during the COVID-19 pandemic, within the context of changing perceptions of old age. She has national and international publications in the fields of migration sociology and gerontology sociology, as well as oral presentations. She presented a paper on her doctoral thesis titled "Language Experiences of Turkish Individuals Living in Germany: Staying in Limbo" at the 10th National Sociology Congress. She is also writing her PhD thesis on the "Intergenerational Differentiated Bilingualism Experiences of Turkish People Living in Germany". Currently, she works as a research assistant in the Department of Sociology at Samsun University.
