Research centre LiDS (Literacy in Diversity Settings), together with WERA (World Education Research Association) and IEA are pleased to announce a new WERA Visiting Researcher Award call for 2024. The visiting researcher will be co-hosted by the Universität Hamburg and IEA Hamburg. The program lasts for six weeks in 2024. Visiting researchers are encouraged to initiate a collaboration with experts to develop their own research project while benefiting from the individual support at the University of Hamburg. Awardees will receive a grant of €3,500 to cover their travel, stay, meals, public transport, and other subsistence costs during their six-week stay in Hamburg. Research proposals should relate to the Universität Hamburg's and IEA’s research activities and study data. Early-stage researchers and experienced researchers engaged in educational research from all nationalities are welcome to apply. All applicants must hold a minimum of a master’s or equivalent degree. The deadline for applications is Monday, 29 February 2024. Applicants may submit their application via the dedicated submission platform. LiDS speaker Prof. Ingrid Gogolin has been invited to speak at the International Symposium on Bilingualism (ISB 14). She used the opportunity to introduce the Faculty Research Center and its various projects. ISB is a biennial conference on a wide range of issues concerning bi/multilingualism and has been hosted by UHH partner Macquarie University on 26-30 June 2023.

WERA Secretary General Elections Results, 2021: Associate Prof Dr Rocío García-Carrión has been elected to serve as Secretary General of the World Education Research Association (WERA) for a four year term (1 July 2022 – 30 June 2026). WERA’s new officer assumes her position on 1 June 2022 and will shadow as Incoming Secretary General from 1 March 2021-31 May 2022. The Goethe Institute engaged well-known researchers in providing a "Position Paper on Learning and Teaching of German as a Foreign Language". The topic of multilingualism is addressed as well. Intervies with Neville Alexander - The Power of Languages against the Language of Power
Professor Dr. Neville Alexander, intellectual, researcher, teacher, and political activist in South Africa died in 2012. He left behind a profound work, in which the connections between language and power are disentangled. In 2014, the book "Interviews with Neville Alexander - The Power of Languages against the Language of Power" appeared, This biographical reconstruction speaks of his strong conviction that multilingualism holds the potential to enable participation in society for those whose current participation is excluded , due to their linguistic background and circumstances.
