Interview with Lea Wolz „Kinder sind oft bessere Denker“ - Spiegel Online+, 2.6.2020
Talk with Philip Barth and Andreas Blessing about philosophizing with children - Podcast Kritisches Denken – Episode 38 www.kritisches-denken-podcast.de
denkUNI – philosophizing with children: Philosophizing with children is a central teaching principle in teaching science and social studies in primary schools. denkUNI transfers research and teaching into practice.
The denkUNI project was set up in 2019 as part of Universität Hamburg’s 100th anniversary. At different venues across Hamburg, students led philosophical discussions with children based on an array of questions, such as the following: “Do we need a homeland?” (Landungsbrücken), “Are we all playing role, like in the theater?” (Thalia Theater), “Do children have power?” (city hall), “What does it mean to believe something?” (St. Michael’s Church), and “Can animals think?” (Hagenbeck Zoological Garden). In continuing denkUNI, we aim to expand the cooperation between students and children and between the University and schools in order to dovetail theory and practice in teacher training and thus enable the practice-oriented further development of methodology and university training formats and make more widely known and disseminate philosophizing as an approach to and principle of teaching at primary schools:
- In various seminars (primary school education and teaching science and social studies in primary schools), students learn how to philosophize with children.
- Schoolchildren visit us on the University campus in order to philosophize.
- denkUNI students are invited by schoolchildren to their school.
- Schools work with us in research and development projects aimed at establishing philosophizing in lessons and school life in the long term.
denkUNI cooperation with schools: Cooperations promoting philosophizing with children have long been in place with several Hamburg primary schools. denkUNI is looking to expand this cooperation network. The schools we cooperate with should benefit from the work we do together and experiences we exchange just as we do. Cooperation already begins where a teacher enables students to implement units for philosophizing with their class.
Opportunities for interested students: If you are interested in seminars on philosophizing with children or would like to philosophize with children within the denkUNI project, send an email to Kerstin.Michalik@uni-hamburg.de or denkuni.ew@uni-hamburg.de.
