Sign symbol cards

Signing picture cards with 232 everyday signs from DGS for use in inclusive daycare centers.

The selection of terms is based on the communicative needs of children and adults in the day care center in the sense of a core vocabulary. The picture cards are provided with children's sign photos, metacom symbols and written symbols and are color-coded according to topic. In total, the vocabulary is divided into 12 topics:

  1. I am new at the daycare center
  2. Me and the people in the daycare center
  3. Me and my needs
  4. Everyday life at the daycare center
  5. What do I think? (evaluations)
  6. Me and my feelings
  7. Me and my body
  8. I get dressed and undressed
  9. Around food
  10. Seasons and festivals around the kindergarten year
  11. I am already growing up (thinking in categories)
  12. Me and my environment: first animals.

Via the following link the sign symbol cards can be used on request and under certain conditions:

The sign-symbol cards are protected by copyright and data protection laws. The files are only available for printing, not for digital sharing, if the following conditions are met:
1. users use the cards exclusively in their inclusive daycare center.
2. the user or the inclusive childcare center has a valid METACOM 8 license.

The Sign Symbol Cards have been funded within the BMBF-funded project " 'Augmentative and Alternative Communication for All' as an inclusive teaching and learning field in inclusive daycare centers".
