Data management and open access
The implementation of any research project includes collecting, storing, sharing, and, if applicable, reusing research data. Researchers need to consider a number of aspects during the planning stage to ensure that the data is collected and stored in a well-organized manner that complies with data protection requirements. The E-Science Office provides advice and support to researchers with the following:
- Storing data (with University of Hamburg IT resources)
- Sharing data with other researchers (with University of Hamburg IT resources)
- Publishing and reusing data, if applicable
Research data management
Research data management that has been well planned from the beginning helps researchers run their project smoothly. For this purpose, the E-Science Office works together with the University’s Center for Sustainable Research Data Management, where researchers can, for example, create data management plans or find information on German Research Foundation (DFG) requirements in the area of data management. In addition to the E-Science Office, the Center for Sustainable Research Data Management (ZFDM) offers comprehensive advice on archiving and reusing research data.
Open data, open access, and open science
The University of Hamburg’s Research Data Repository can be used to publish and archive research data— free of charge for researchers. In addition to publishing their research data open access, researchers can also archive research data without third-party access. To make research data visible, there is the option to publish it on the faculty’s community page.
