Equipment lending service

The E-Science Office provides researchers and faculty members with high-quality equipment to collect data and produce professional audio and video content.

We are happy to advise you and can put together the equipment you need for your project.

To borrow equipment:

  1. Go to University of Hamburg’s hardware rental page (the E-Science Office is already preselected as a provider).
  2. Register with your uni username.
  3. Select the hardware you need from the catalog and check to see if it is available on the desired date.
  4. Reserve the equipment. You will automatically receive a confirmation by email.
  5. Pick up the equipment on the date selected at the Education Media Center information point (MZ-Info at Von-Melle-Park 8, Room 514), or arrange another time by replying to the confirmation email.

iPad kits

Our iPad kits in a rolling case each contain 16 iPad Pros with an Apple pencil, one MacBook Air, and an LTE/5G router. The iPads are administered via Jamf device management software. An additional rolling case with 16 headsets and a Bluetooth speaker is available for each iPad kit and can be borrowed separately.

Video

We offer a wide range of video equipment and are happy to put together customized recording kits for your research project.

  • Video kits in rolling cases for class recordings:
    • Type 1: report-style documentation (2 cameras, 2 wireless microphones, and 1 directional microphone)
    • Type 2: parallel data collection (4 cameras and 30 audio recorders)
  • Various video cameras (from easy-to-use models to high-quality film cameras)
  • Mobile light
  • Accessories (tripods, recorders, synchronization, and much more)

Audio

Our extensive range of audio equipment allows us to put together customized recording kits tailored to your research project.

  • Recording kits for podcasts, telephone conferences, or group discussions
  • Mobile recording device for podcasts, group discussions, or recordings in the field
  • Audio editing suites with controllers (on-site)
  • Various microphones with a wide range of accessories
  • Small recording device with lapel microphone that can be synchronized with video (also available as a classroom kit)

Additional equipment

We also have other equipment available, for example, a recording device for video and screen capturing that you can also use for live streaming as well as devices for easily managing recurring processes (e.g., in audio production). We are planning to add further data collection devices such as eye trackers, VR glasses, and more.
