If you are interested in coming to the Faculty of Education at University of Hamburg for your Erasmus exchange, please make sure to check out the information below on how to get nominated, on how to apply as an exchange student and on what to expect before and during your mobility.

Before Nomination

Welcome to the Faculty of Education at University of Hamburg!

We are excited about your interest in an Erasmus Exchange at University of Hamburg! Please use the following steps as a guideline on how to apply and what to consider before your stay at UHH:

Application at your Home University

To be nominated for an Erasmus exchange at the faculty of Education, you will need to follow the application procedure for the Erasmus exchange at your home university. Please apply with your Erasmus office / coordinator. Once you are selected, we will receive your information through them and will inform you on how to proceed with your application to University of Hamburg as well as to our student dormitories.

German Proficiency

To be able to study at University of Hamburg you will need to provide proof of German proficiency at a Level of B1 - B2 to your Erasmus office. It is advisable to have this level of German proficiency so that you can follow your courses (which are mostly in German) and fulfill your course work.

Semesterdates

Wintersemester: 01. October to 31. March

Summersemester: 01. April to 30. September

After Nomination

After you have been officially nominated by your Erasmus coordinator, please follow these steps:

Class Selection

You can find the class offers at University of Hamburg online in STiNE. Here you can select the courses for your Learning Agreement. Class offers are published on February 1st for the Summer Semester and on August 1st for the Winter Semester every year.

Online-Application to University of Hamburg

After we accept you as an Erasmus exchange student, you will need to also officially apply online via STiNE. You can find a guide on how to apply in English an German.

The application deadlines are as follows:

Winter semester: June 1st - July 15th

Summer semester: December 1st - January 15th

Submission of Application Documents

To complete your application, please submit the following documents to the International Office:

Your Learning Agreement
A copy of your health insurance documents
A print-out of your online application in STiNE

Housing

Erasmus students are eligible to apply for a room in our student dormitories. After your nomination, we will send you the application form for the dormitories. If you are interested in applying, please fill the form and attach a picture of yourself. You have to submit the application to erasmus.ew"AT"uni-hamburg.de no later than September 15th for the summer semester and June 10th for the winter semester.

Enrolling in German Language Classes

University of Hamburg offers a variety of German language classes in cooperation with the Volkshochschule (Adult Education Center). You can find more information here.

Additionally, the University's language center does also offer intensive German courses before the start of the semester. Students enrolled at UHH can participate free of charge. Sign-up for these courses will be done online via STiNE and you will be informed about the deadlines via the International Office.

The Buddyprogram

The International Office offers a buddy program for international students. A student of University of Hamburg will be you guide in the first weeks of your stay. You can sign up to the program here.

During Your Stay

Signing up for Classes

Please send us your class selection before the start of the semester so that we can enroll you in the courses. You are not required to sign up for courses via STiNE

Selection of Buddys

Before your arrival, we will offer you to sign up for our buddy program. Some of our former outgoing students will help you maneuver life at UHH and our faculty, help you with administrative tasks and show you around. They are there for your questions. If you sign up, we will match you with a student before your arrival.

Confirmation of Arrival

Once in Hamburg, please stop by our office and we will issue your "Confirmation of Arrival" Document needed for your home university.

Semesterticket

Every student enrolled at University of Hamburg receives a semester ticket valid for public transport in Hamburg as a benefit included in the semester fee. You will be issued a preliminary ticket valid for the first month of studies and after successful payment of the semester fee, you will receive the final ticket as well as your student ID. The semester ticket is valid in all public transport as per the HVV (Hamburg transport union)

Welcome Event

In the first week of the semester, the International office will offer a welcome event for all exchange students. You will be invited to meet the faculty's other international students and their buddies and to clarify any open questions.

PIASTA

PIASTA is a university service to develop the internationalisation on campus and support intercultural exchange. They do offer a variety of events and means of support for international students every semester. Additionally, they do also organise an international welcome week.

Learning Agreement

You can find information on class selection in our Section "After Nomination".

If your class selection changes after you have already filled your learning agreement, please fill our "Changes to Learning Agreement" form and have our Erasmus coordinator sign your new learning agreement before sending it to your home university.

Transcript of Records

To be able to confirm your class participation and possible grades, please fill out the this document and have your teachers sign it. Afterwards, please fill our Request for Transcript of Records form and submit it together with your proof of participation forms, to receive a Transcript of Records

The End of Your Stay

Before departure, please make sure to pass on all your open questions to the International office and to get a signature on your Confirmation of Departure.
