There are a variety of options for financial support for the internationalization of research activities. Faculty contact is the head of the international office.
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
The DAAD can provide up to 3 months of funding for university teaching staff and researchers from abroad who wish to conduct a stay at our faculty. The program for project-related individual exchanges fosters bi-national research partnerships with specific countries. Research scholarships are available for research stays of up to 12 months during doctoral studies. Research scholarships for postdocs are available for stays abroad ranging from 3 to 6 months. Temporary postdoctoral positions of up to 18 months can include a 12-month stay abroad through the PRIME program. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports postdocs and experienced researchers who wish to do a research stay abroad from 6 to 24 months with a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship. With the Humboldt Research Award, postdocs and experienced researchers from abroad can complete a stay in Germany from 6 to 24 months. The Georg Forster Research Fellowship is another option for researchers from developing and emerging countries whose research contributes to the sustainable development of their respective country. German Research Foundation (DFG)
The German Research Foundation funds workshops, trips abroad, and guests through its program to foster international cooperation. The German Research Foundation also funds internationally oriented scientific activities in Germany and the annual conferences of professional societies. Further funding opportunities offered by the German Research Foundation focus primarily on bilateral measures, which vary depending on the partner country.
Department of International Affairs at Universität Hamburg
The Department of International Affairs offers international project funding for activities that build upon and strengthen activities. Hamburglobal PhD provides support for up to 2 months of doctoral research abroad if the researcher’s doctoral work is related to the core research areas, emerging fields, or profile initiatives at Universität Hamburg. The PhD connect funding line provides support for virtual and hybrid colloquiums for doctoral researchers at Universität Hamburg in cooperation with strategic partner universities and for research stays at Universität Hamburg for up to 2 doctoral researchers from the respective partner institutions. Next Generation Partnerships Workshops/Conferences funds thematic workshops and conferences with multiple partner universities; at least one of Universität Hamburg’s strategic partner universities must be participating.
