Codeweek-Workshop on the development of a weather station with the Calliope mini
17 October 2022, by Prof. Dr. Sandra Schulz
During a two-day Codeweek workshop on October 13/14, 2022, students from secondary school learned how to program the Calliope mini at the Schülerforschungszentrum Hamburg and used our teaching material to develop a simple weather station with which they can collect, process, and visualize environmental data.
Our working group members Moritz Kreinsen and Negar Monir guided a group of students in their first steps with the Calliope mini and used the material for developing a weather station with the Calliope mini that they had previously developed in a research lab with students, as well as the material from IT2School to get them started.
In addition to teaching data literacy, the focus was also on physical computing concepts. Many of the students also had their first contact with programming. The block-based programming environment "Makecode" was used to ensure that access to programming was as simple as possible. The workshop had the side effect that the developed material could be evaluated at the same time and can be further developed in the future.
