The new orientation teaching placement module for the bachelor’s degree in teacher training will begin in the coming winter semester. To enhance our work as lecturers in the new module, and to best prepare students for their teaching placements in diverse contexts (be that abroad or in Germany), we are offering antibias training for teaching staff within the Faculty of Education as part of the Diversity Contexts in Teacher Education (DiCoT) project.
This approach is a core part of our professional development courses for teaching staff, because it introduces practical and theoretical perspectives to reflect on prejudices and stereotypes. With a view towards (prospective) teachers’ activities in diversity contexts, coursework involves antibias approaches to foster awareness of prejudice and respect for difference. The work should also encourage students to cultivate their pedagogical professionalism through self-reflection. Teaching staff thus operate as multipliers by undertaking antibias training themselves and can then promote antibias approaches and discuss tested content and exercises with students in preparatory seminars. In turn, the final teaching placement offers a great opportunity to use the acquired knowledge and approaches in situations where stereotypes play a role—whether in Germany or abroad.
Dr. Rita Panesar heads the training program together with her colleague Elisabeth Wazinski. The key objectives are to jointly develop seminar components on the basis of antibias approaches, self-reflection in seminars, and the further development of teaching. The training takes place over 7 days throughout the summer semester—the exact dates will be confirmed after registration. Further dates for self-reflection opportunities on one’s own seminars and to further develop seminar components are planned for the coming semester. A commitment is desired.
Registration is closed.
The training will begin at the end of April 2021.
