Evaluation of the project "Rucksack Schule"
This study aims at evaluating the effectiveness of the language and parental education program "Rucksack Schule" with regard to the development of Turkish-German language proficiency.
The study follows a quasi-experimental design (pre-post-testing) with an intervention and a control group. It examines whether the children who take part in the parallelized courses in German, Social Studies and Native Language (and whose parents take part in the parental Rucksack program) have better linguistic skills in German and their native language than children who attend "conventional classes". As control variables, the analysis takes context factors into account that are proven to influence the language skills of children.
The survey took place at two times of measurement in grade one and two with the language couple German/Turkish. In addition, guideline-based interviews on the implementation of the program "Rucksack Schule" and on the cooperation between parents and school were conducted.
The study was extended to grades 3 and 4, now providing a longitudinal perspective.
