Next Generation Literacies Conference 2024
2024 got off to a fantastic start with the Next Generation Literacies Network Conference, Social Participation in Linguistically Diverse Societies, taking place at the old state library in Hamburg on 11-12 January. It was truly a pleasure for so many network members to get together in person, to share their research findings in oral and poster presentations, and to exchange stimulating ideas for ongoing and future collaboration. The conference programme was enriched by keynote lectures by renowned scholars in the field: Prof. David Little, Trinity College Dublin, gave a lecture on “Learner Autonomy, Plurilingualism and Interculturality: Pedagogies for Literacy in a Democratic World”; Prof. Joseph Lo Bianco, University of Melbourne, shared his expertise in a virtual talk entitled “Dominant Language Constellations: A Perspective on Present-day Multilingualism.”
You can view the full conference programme here, Prof. Lo Bianco’s keynote here, some reflections from Prof. Ingrid Piller on the network’s legacies here, and a selection of photographs from the conference below.
