In cooperation with the LiDS research centre of the University of Hamburg, the German School Guatemala (DSG) in Guatemala City held an pedagogical day on dealing with multilingualism and as a kick-off event for the start of immersion on October 4, 2024.
LiDS member Prof Dr Silvia Melo Pfeifer opened the day with an hour-long keynote speech followed by a Q&A session on the state of research on immersion in front of the 120 teachers, educators and psychologists in the DSG team, providing the basis for further work on the immersion concept as well as for the discussion and implementation of short-term measures to strengthen the balance between the different languages at DSG. During this working phase, Prof Dr Melo Pfeifer and the coordinator for pedagogical quality management (PQM) at the DSG, Marcel Weitschat, also engaged in an intensive exchange in which further opportunities for cooperation were explored.
DSG is an excellent German school abroad and, as an exchange school, educates both Guatemalan and German children from kindergarten to the Abitur. LiDS is looking forward to future cooperation opportunities!
