As almost everywhere in the world, multilingualism has always been part of everyday life in big cities like Hamburg: dialects and standard languages, immigrant languages and trade languages meet here. Sometimes they mix harmoniously, sometimes they come into conflict, and sometimes they separate different worlds from one another. At the LiDS (“Literacy in Diversity Settings”) research center at the Faculty of Education, we investigate the consequences of multilingualism for individuals and society.
In this lecture series, we explore the question of how multilingualism is lived in everyday life and how it affects social participation, in Hamburg and elsewhere. A particular focus will be on education, but we will also look at health, the world of work and urban history.
The lecture series starts on Tuesday, April 15 and will take place every two weeks between 6 - 8 pm in room 08, Von-Melle-Park 8. For the exact dates and further information, see here: Flyer
The lectures will be held in German and English.
